Remembering Gustavo Cisneros (1945–2023)

Americas Society/Council of the Americas express our deep sadness over the passing of our dear friend Gustavo Cisneros, CISNEROS chairman.

Americas Society, Council of the Americas, and its members express our great sadness over the death of Gustavo Alfredo Cisneros Rendiles. A close friend of the organizations for decades and of our founder David Rockefeller, Gustavo Cisneros hosted the Board and was recognized with the Americas Society Gold Medal in 2003.

“Gustavo Cisneros was an inspiring, visionary leader who worked tirelessly and energetically to advance Latin American business, education, and culture globally,” said AS/COA President and CEO Susan Segal. “He was a dear friend of our organizations and many of our members, and we are profoundly saddened to learn of his passing. I will miss him enormously, as will his family at Americas Society and Council of the Americas."

A Venezuelan business leader, Gustavo Cisneros served as the Chairman of CISNEROS, a leading global firm encompassing the fields of media, entertainment, telecommunications, and more. Over the course of his life, Gustavo Cisneros showed a commitment to leadership and excellence as a board member and advisor for numerous hemispheric and international firms and organizations and he was dedicated to supporting quality education in programming across Latin America, and particularly in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Americas Society and Council of the Americas offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Gustavo Cisneros at this difficult time.
